Philippine Embassy Bowling Team in Tokyo Regains Championship Trophy in Asean Tournament
The Philippine Embassy Bowling Team in Tokyo was declared Champion after three (3) years of waiting in the one-day ASEAN Committee in Tokyo (ACT) Bowling Tournament held at the Tokyo Port Bowl on 28 August 2016. Ten (10) teams from the ASEAN Embassies in Tokyo participated in the friendly bowling tournament organized and hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.
The Philippine Embassy Bowling Team members also reaped individual awards, as follows: Attaché Reynaldo W. Cahayag Jr., Champion (Men’s Individual); Attaché Veronica Bernardino, 1st runner-up (Women’s Individual); and Attaché Lawrence V. Cuevas, 2nd runner-up (Men’s Individual). Incidentally, Mr. Cuevas also received the same individual award when he first joined the ACT Bowling Tournament in 2012.
The winners in the ACT Bowling Tournament were determined based on the total pinfalls for both the team and individual categories. Each of the ten teams comprised seven bowlers who each played three (3) games. Completing the Top 3 Teams in the group category included Team Thailand and Team Malaysia as second place and third place, respectively.
This year’s official 7-member Philippine Embassy Bowling Team comprised the following: Consul Dominic Xavier M. Imperial (Team Leader); Attaché Lawrence V. Cuevas (Team Captain); Attaché Aurelio L. Exaltacion Jr.; Attaché Veronica A. Bernardino; Attaché Reynaldo W. Cahayag Jr.; Mr. Mars Zafra (2nd runner-up in Men’s Individual, 2015 ACT Bowling Tournament); and Mr. Ricardo T. Arrangote. Also included in this year’s Team Philippines as alternate bowlers were Attaché Nonna C. Punzalan, Attaché Jose Juancho A. Perez, Attaché Diane Merce B. Bartolome, and Mr. Nestor G. Leuterio.
The awarding ceremony was followed by a dinner attended by the bowlers, the Heads of Mission of the ASEAN Embassies, other embassy personnel and their families. Philippine Embassy OIC Consul Arnel M. Sanchez, spouse Atty. Krizelle Sanchez, and Consul Kristine Margret M. Malang joined the dinner to celebrate the victory of the 2016 ACT Bowling Tournament Champion. Incidentally, the Philippine Embassy will be the host in the next edition of the ACT Bowling Tournament scheduled next year.
The Philippine Embassy Bowling Team has consistently brought honors in the annual ACT Bowling Tournament, as follows: Champion in 2008; Third Place in 2009 (tied with Team Malaysia); Champion in 2010; 1st runner-up in 2011; Champion in 2012; Second Place in 2013; Third Place in 2014; and Second Place in 2015.
The annual ACT Bowling Tournament serves as the venue in renewing ties and building friendships between and among ASEAN diplomats, other embassy personnel and their families through sports.
