HIH Princess Takamado Visits Philippine Booth at the Ikebana International Fair 2019
The Philippine Embassy showcased Philippine crafts and food products at the Ikebana International Fair 2019, an annual charity event, held at the Royal Park Hotel on 17 December 2019. Over 30 foreign embassies and 40 local exhibitors participated in the event.
Her Imperial Highness Princess Takamado, the Fair’s guest of honor, visited the Philippine booth, together with Mrs. Akie Abe, the wife of Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who each purchased handcrafted products from the Philippines.
Over 450 Japanese and foreign residents visited the Philippine booth with dried mangoes and handcrafted products from abaca fiber drawing the most attention and purchases. The Philippine Embassy donated its profit from the sales of the Philippine products to the Fair’s charity beneficiaries.
The Ikebana International Fair is organized annually by the Ikebana International Tokyo Founding Chapter as a special end-year fundraising event. Aside from booths sponsored by foreign embassies and local exhibitors, the Fair features Ikebana exhibitions by headmasters.
Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arrangement, is inextricably part of Japanese culture and tradition, and now serves as an avenue to promote mutual understanding and friendship between Japan and the world.
