Philippine Embassy in Tokyo Kicks-Off National Women’s Month Celebration
Minister and Consul-General Marian Jocelyn R. Tirol-Ignacio led the Philippine Embassy personnel in National Women’s Month Celebration in March at the Flag Raising Ceremony in Tokyo on 27 February 2017. Similar to the composition of the entire Department of Foreign Affairs, women comprise a majority of the total workforce of the Embassy.
In her remarks, Minister and Consul-General Marian Jocelyn R. Tirol-Ignacio stressed the importance of National Women’s Month celebrated in March as mandated by Proclamation No. 227 which gives recognition to the contributions of Filipino women in the society.
Other activities planned for the month are a photo exhibit on women migrants by award-winning Filipina photographer Xyza Cruz Bacani to be inaugurated during the National Women’s Day on 08 March 2017, and Embassy interaction with various organizations on rights of women migrants including participation in the FY2016 International Workshop on Acceptance of Foreign Nationals and their Integration into Japan organized by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan with the theme of “Toward an Intercultural Society: Focusing on Life and Active Participation of Foreign Women in Japan” held on 01 March 2017 at the Tokyo Women’s Plaza.
There are about 257,172 Filipino migrants in Japan of whom more than 70% are women.
