Philippine Embassy in Tokyo Joins Filipinos Around the World in Remembrance of National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal
TOKYO, JAPAN — Charge d’ Affaires ad interim Marian Jocelyn Tirol-Ignacio together with embassy officials and personnel honoured Dr. Jose Rizal in a wreath-laying ceremony to commemorate the 119th Anniversary of the Martyrdom of Dr. Jose Rizal held at the Embassy chancery in Tokyo on 30 December 2015.
After the singing of the Philippine National Anthem, flowers were offered before a bronze bust of the national hero. In remarks held during the ceremony, Minister and Consul General Ignacio gave grateful recognition to Dr. Rizal’s admirable qualities that gave birth to the Filipino nation and gives inspiration to all civil servants. Filipino food was partaken at a simple reception held after the ceremony.
Flowers were also offered at the Hibiya Park before the bust of Dr. Rizal where a marker of the National Hero is found. The monument marks the location where the National Hero resided during his stay in Japan in the spring of 1888. END
