8 October 2024 – Philippine Ambassador to Japan Mylene J. Garcia-Albano hosted a special reception on 4 October 2024 at the Official Residence in honor of Department of Foreign Affairs-United Nations and International Organizations (DFA-UNIO) Assistant Secretary Maria Teresa Almojuela and the Tokyo-based non-resident Ambassadors to the Philippines. The event provided a unique opportunity for diplomats to gather in a relaxed setting, facilitating conversations centered on strengthening partnerships and deepening cooperation across key multilateral platforms, including the United Nations.

Held against the backdrop of early autumn, the reception encouraged lively exchanges on global cooperation, with discussions highlighting shared objectives in international peace, development, and sustainability. Attendees also engaged in conversations regarding key issues in the Philippines’ bilateral relations with each participating country.

Assistant Secretary Almojuela, who plays a key role in steering the Philippines’ multilateral engagements, underscored the importance of reinforcing existing partnerships while seeking new avenues for collaboration. Ambassador Garcia-Albano echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the Philippines’ commitment to dialogue and cooperation through the UN and other multilateral institutions.

“All of us present share a profound understanding of the need for international solidarity if we are to effectively confront our common challenges,” said Ambassador Garcia-Albano.

As a founding member of the United Nations, the Philippines remains steadfast in its commitment to multilateralism and a rules-based international order. With eight decades of experience in multilateral diplomacy, the country is now seeking a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2027–2028 term, confident in its proven track record as a dependable partner, pathfinder, and peacemaker in global affairs.

Ambassador Mylene Garcia-Albano emphasized unity in addressing global issues during her welcome remarks at the reception.

DFA-UNIO Assistant Secretary Maria Teresa Almojuela highlighted the need to bolster current partnerships while pursuing fresh opportunities for cooperation.
