Azabu Fire Station Conducts Disaster / Emergency Drill Training For Philippine Embassy Personnel
The Azabu Fire Station of the Tokyo Fire Department, in cooperation with the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo, conducted a two-hour disaster/ emergency drill training for Embassy personnel and their families held at the Embassy on 21 November 2017.
About 40 Embassy personnel, including two children and one private staff member, participated in the training that included simulation of a 7-scale earthquake, smoke tent drill, and the proper use of fire extinguishers. The Azabu Fire Station brought large equipment such as a van and a tent for the participants to experience an actual disaster.
The training was part of the Embassy’s disaster/emergency preparedness program held regularly for Embassy personnel and their family members, especially those newly-assigned. Fire Captain Kenta Kimura of the Azabu Fire Station led the 5-man team who conducted the training program.
In his closing remarks, Philippine Ambassador to Japan Jose C. Laurel V thanked the Azabu Fire Station and stressed to the training participants the need to master the drill and presence of mind in case of disaster or any emergency. At the end of the training, Ambassador Laurel awarded the Certificate of Appreciation to the Azabu Fire Station and handed each trainor with Philippine-made souvenirs.
