TOKYO, 5 August 2025 – In celebration of Halo-Halo Day on 6 August and Banana Day on 7 August, a Filipino-themed pop-up event was held at Coaster Craft Beer & Kitchen in Aobadai, Tokyo on 2 August 2025. The event was organized by Salo, with the support of the Philippine Embassy in Japan.
Local patrons enjoyed beloved Filipino summer treats such as halo-halo and saging con yelo, both made with Philippine saba bananas, which were specially sourced and provided through the Office of the Agriculture Attaché of the Philippine Embassy. The bananas were caramelized to perfection, adding a rich flavor to the refreshing desserts.

“The Philippine Embassy is proud to champion individual endeavors by Filipinos in Japan that aim to promote Filipino food to locals and foreigners alike, and mainstream our world-class cuisine,” said Philippine Ambassador to Japan, H.E. Mylene J. Garcia-Albano, in a separate statement.
Salo is a culinary collaboration between self-taught chefs Joshua Cyril Arbolente and Carlo Bactol, who have been curating pop-up events across Tokyo to showcase authentic Filipino dishes. Alongside the iconic desserts, the Coaster-Aobadai pop-up featured Filipino favorites such as sisig (sizzling pork jowl and ears with chicken liver, seasoned with onions and calamansi), chicharon (crispy pork cracklings), and isaw (barbecued chicken intestines).
