50th ASEAN-Japan Anniversary Reception Highlights Strong ASEAN Camaraderie and Diverse Cuisine
In celebration of the 50th ASEAN-Japan Anniversary, the ASEAN Committee in Tokyo (ACT) hosted an afternoon tea reception on 29 November 2023 at the Indonesian Residence. In attendance were the working officials for the upcoming ASEAN-Japan Summit from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Director-General MATSUO Hirotaka, of the Secretariat for the Commemorative Summit for the 50th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, graced the event as the Guest of Honor.
In his speech, Director-General Matsuo shared that since 1973, ASEAN and Japan “have been working together for peace, stability and prosperity in the region, as true friends with “heart-to-heart” relations.” With the upcoming Summit, the hope is to continue to nurture the “Golden Friendship” and co-create a bright future for “Golden Opportunities” of the next generation. He ended his speech by assuring the ASEAN countries of his team’s full cooperation and support toward the milestone success of the ASEAN-Japan Summit on 16-18 December 2023 in Tokyo, Japan.
Also present at the event are the officials from the ASEAN – Japan Centre led by Secretary General Kunihiko HIRABAYASHI.
Following the short program, guests were invited to taste the varied delicacies prepared by the ten (10) ASEAN countries. The Philippines served Maja Blanca, a crowd favorite, along with Bibingkang Malagkit for the guests.
