Lecture Series in Celebration of National Arts Month

The Department of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with the Mindanao Creative and Cultural Workers Group, Inc., National Commission for Culture and the Arts, and Mindanao State University- Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), invites everyone to a lecture series to celebrate the National Arts Month from 26-28 February 2021 and 6-8 March 2021. The Lecture Series will be streamlined on the DFA FB Page.

The general theme of the Lecture Series is Interconnectivity and Transnationalism with a Bisayan Theme Mamugnaong Pakighinuklog (Creative Inter-Reflections).

Seven (7) speakers from Mindanao, Visayas, Canada, US, and London who are artists, historians, and scholars will share their insights on continuing to be productive amidst pandemic, on breaking barriers in a global setting, on how they have faced their challenges in various environments.

The finale will feature the children of Mindanao. Selected children from ages 10-16 coming from various parts of the region will share their narrative through dance, song, and poetry on how art have influenced their lives. In the evening, a pre-recorded Rondalla Concerto by the survivors and orphans of Typhoon Sendong will cap off the Lecture Series.

This Lecture Series’ theme and the National Arts Month Theme “Alab Sining, Alay Sigla” synergized the message of integrating arts in the community and encourages the youth to keep the passion for arts aflame.

The National Arts Month 2021 celebration seeks to conserve, promote, and popularize Filipino artistic creations; integrate the arts in the community life; and harness the arts as catalysts for values education.
