Ambassador Garcia-Albano Encourages Pinoy Runners To Reach For Their Goals at Tokyo Marathon 2023

7 March 2023 – Philippine Ambassador Mylene J. Garcia – Albano encouraged 30 Filipino runners joining the Tokyo Marathon 2023 to “reach for their goals” at a meet-and-greet at the Philippine Embassy on 03 March 2023.

The 30 runners who participated in the Marathon held on 05 March belong to the organization Pinoy Runners Japan. Led by Mr. Jemerson Vierneza and Mr. Calvin Chang Galgana, Pinoy Runners come from various locations in the Philippines and the United States. They all shared the excitement of being able to run the Marathon after two years of limited travel due to the pandemic.

Ambassador Garcia-Albano expressed her best wishes to all participants who have trained for months in order to prepare for this marathon. She also hoped that the runners will reach their targets for this event.

Mr. Vierneza also introduced the members of the Pinoy Runner Japan present at the event to Ambassador Garcia-Albano and Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM), Mr. Robespierre L. Bolivar. Among those present at the event was Filipino-American runner Ms. Julie Uychiat who recently ran the 2023 World Marathon Challenge which covered seven continents in seven days. Ms. Uychiat, who was born in Negros Occidental, won in 4 of the races of the 2023 World Marathon.

The members of The Pinoy Runner Japan thanked the Ambassador and DCM for arranging this meeting that allowed them to see each other before the race as well as to be able to visit the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo.
