Four (4) Students from the Philippine High School for the Arts Featured at the 22nd International High School Arts Festival in Tokyo

Awarded artwork of PHSA Student Ms. Flores at the 22nd International High School Arts Festival in Tokyo

Artworks from the Philippine High School for the Arts (PHSA) students namely, Minnesota S. Flores, Daniel Castillo, Denise Natividad, and Kulay Dala were featured at the 22nd International High School Arts Festival in Tokyo organized by the International Foundation for Arts and Culture (IFAC).

Ms. Minnesota S. Flores’ artwork entitled “Pagtahi-tahi ng Reta-retasong Alaala” (Sewing Together Remnants of the Past) was awarded the Certificate of Merit with medal during the virtual awarding ceremony on 04 August 2021. IFAC Founder and Chairman Dr. Haruhisa Handa who read the Citation for Ms. Flores, praised the Philippines’ ‘top class’ performance in arts and culture.

Ms. Flores’ painting which depicts a lady with a sewing machine is “a homage” to her family of ‘craftsmen and dressmakers’. Her piece highlights one of the prominent Filipino value which is the ‘love of family’.

Ms. Flores’ awarded piece as well as the artworks of the three (3) other students from PHSA will be exhibited at the National Art Center in Tokyo on 04-15 August 2021. The virtual ceremony can be accessed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNGYOSMnnAM.

Artworks of the three (3) other PHSA students Denise Natividad’s “Anx(i)ety”, Kulay Dala’s “Kinaiya” (“Characteristic”) and Daniel Castillo’s “Sariling Engkanto” (Bewitched Apparition) as exhibited at the Gallery 2B in the National Arts Center Gallery in Tokyo.
