7 March 2019 — As an opening salvo for International Women’s Month, Atty. Anna Maria D. Abad gave a talk yesterday at the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo on “Latest Trends and Developments in Philippine Laws on Women.” Participants gained useful insights on the recently enacted law on expanded maternity leave benefits; special gynecological leave pay; Solo Parent’s Welfare Act of 2000; rights and benefits of women under the Anti-Violence Against Women and Children Act; rights of night-shift workers and allowing women to work the night shift under RA 10151; and laws on anti-sexual harassment and anti-cyber libel.

“While the Philippines is recognized in Asia and the world as one of the top countries in terms of gender and development issues, it is inspiring to know that we still continue to enact new laws to further promote and protect the rights of women and children. As they say, we do not rest on our laurels,” Ambassador Jose C. Laurel V said.
