Philippine Embassy Congratulates Philippine High Schools Which Won The 2019 SEAMEO – Japan Award

Philippine Embassy in Japan Charge d’ Affaires (CDA) Robespierre L. Bolivar congratulated two Philippine High Schools for winning the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) – Japan Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Award during a meeting at the Embassy on 26 September 2023. The South Hill School Inc. and La Filipina National High School in Tagum City were conferred the 2019 and 2022 award, respectively, in ceremonies held in Tokyo.

During the meeting, student representatives from the two high schools presented their award-winning projects.

The “Kindness for Peace” project of the South Hill School, Inc. of Laguna City, focused on the “value of kindness” and its crucial role in attaining peace in communities. The school undertook sustainable peace-building activities through dialogue, consistent application of various acts of kindness, and the acquisition of skills aimed at influencing and encouraging more and more people to be kind.

La Filipina National High School of Davao City, on the other hand, successfully utilized the power of media in its project “Salida La Filipina”. Conceptualized and implemented during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, students and teachers collaborated to create radio and television programs based on the school curriculum to help ensure that student learning can proceed even when in-person classes were not possible.

The SEAMEO – JAPAN ESD project, which has been held annually since 2012, is a collaborative initiative of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan (MEXT), and the UNESCO Asia and Pacific Regional Bureau for Education.
