The Philippine Embassy in Japan Congratulates The Filipino Silver and Bronze Medalists in the 64th International Mathematical Olympiad

The Philippine Embassy in Tokyo, Japan extends its congratulations to six Filipino students who won three (3) silver and three (3) bronze medals in the 64th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) held in Chiba, Japan on 12-13 July 2023.
Among the silver medalists include Raphael Dylan Dalida of the Philippine Science High School (PSHS)-Main Campus, Jerome Austin Te of the Jubilee Christian Academy, and Filbert Ephraim Wu of the Victory Christian International School. The bronze medals went to Rickson Caleb Tan of the MGC New Life Christian Academy, Mohammad Nur Casib of the PSHS-Central Mindanao Campus, and Alvann Walter Paredes Dy of the Saint Jude Catholic School.
The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) reported that a total of 618 contestants participated in the 2023 IMO. From this number, 54 gold medals, 90 silver medals, 170 bronze medals and 192 honorable mentions were awarded. After winning six medals in total, the Philippines ranked 26th out of 112 countries that joined the international mathematics competition.
The students were supported by the DOST – Science Education Institute (SEI) led by the Director, Dr. Josette T. Biyo. DOST-SEI worked with the Mathematical Society of the Philippines (MSP) in developing these students’ mathematical abilities through participation in various Math Olympiads in the Philippines.
The Philippine Team to the 64th IMO was headed by the MSP’s team leader, Ms. Hazel Joy Shi, Mr. Kerish Villegas as deputy team leader and Mr. Russelle Guadalupe as trainer, together with Dr. Biyo and DOST-SEI Supervising Science Research Specialist Dr. Randolf S. Sasota.
The Philippines has won a total of four (4) gold medals, 19 silver medals, 40 bronze medals and 30 honorable mentions since the country started joining the IMO in 1988.
