TOKYO, 17 July 2026 — Philippine Ambassador to Japan Mylene J. Garcia-Albano delivered a lecture entitled “Shaping the Platinum Era of Philippines-Japan Relations” during a study session with members of the Japan Innovation Party on 15 July 2026.

In her presentation, Ambassador Garcia-Albano discussed the elevation of Philippines-Japan relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, as announced by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Prime Minister Sanae TAKAICHI on 28 May 2026.

The Ambassador noted that the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership—the first of its kind for the Philippines—is the framework for advancing what the two leaders described as the “platinum era” of bilateral relations, brought about by an unprecedented level of trust and strategic alignment between the two countries. It also reflects their shared recognition that the evolving challenges in the Indo-Pacific require broader, deeper, and more forward-looking cooperation.

Ambassador Garcia-Albano highlighted four trends shaping the “platinum era” of Philippines-Japan relations: the increasingly strategic character of the two countries’ economic partnership; the continued deepening of their security cooperation; the growing role of innovation as a driver of shared prosperity; and the emergence of their shared values as strategic assets.

The interactive discussion that followed provided an opportunity for an exchange of views on how both countries can further advance their shared interests and contribute to peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific.
