The Philippine Embassy in Japan joins the nation in observing the Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month (MANAMo) 2026 this September, pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 316, series of 2017.

To mark this year’s observance, the Embassy held a flag‑raising ceremony led by Ambassador Mylene J. Garcia-Albano, with personnel wearing blue in support of the month‑long celebration.

During the ceremony, the Ambassador delivered the commemorative message of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., while a video message from Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro was also presented, underscoring the significance of MANAMo and reaffirmed the Philippines’ steadfast commitment to safeguarding its maritime rights and fulfilling its responsibilities as a maritime and archipelagic nation. The MANAMo 2026 theme song was likewise played, further highlighting the spirit of this year’s observance.

MANAMo is an annual observance established to deepen the public’s understanding and appreciation of the Philippines’ unique geography and identity, and its vital role in regional and global maritime affairs. This year’s commemoration bears the theme, “Karapatan sa Karagatan, Sama-sama Nating Alagaan,” and coincides with the 10th Anniversary of the 2016 Arbitral Award on the South China Sea.

The Embassy reaffirms its commitment to promoting awareness, strengthening collaboration, and inspiring collective action to protect our maritime rights and resources.
