TOKYO, 18 July 2026 – The Philippine Embassy in Japan, in cooperation with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, launched a special illumination of the iconic TMG Building No. 1 on 09 July 2026 in Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo with the flag colors of the Philippines and Japan in commemoration of the 70th Anniversary of the Normalization of Philippines-Japan Diplomatic Relations.

ミレーン・ガルシア＝アルバノ駐日フィリピン大使、小池百合子東京都知事、フィリピンのフアン・ミゲル・ズビリ上院議員、ジョセフ・ビクター・エヘルシト上院議員らが、点灯までのカウントダウンを行いました。両上院議員は、笹川平和財団（SPF）主催の、日本の各政府関係者やステークホルダーとの会談のため来日中でした。
「記念すべき今回のライトアップは、フィリピンと日本の多面的かつ活気あふれる関係を示すものです。両国のパートナーシップがプラチナ時代を迎えるにあたり、今夜のイベントが、より強固かつ深い二国間協力への道しるべとなることを願っています」と、ガルシア・アルバノ大使はイルミネーション点灯後の声明で強調しました。
ガルシア＝アルバノ大使、ズビリ上院議員、エヘルシト上院議員は、桑原敦外務長ら、都当局者とも会談し、フィリピンと日本の強固なパートナーシップを再確認しました。桑原外務長は、2017年から2020年まで、マニラの在フィリピン日本大使館で公使兼総領事を務めていました。
2026年7月18日、東京都庁第一本庁舎で初めて開催されたフィリピン・日本のイルミネーションをさらに記念に残すため、ガルシア・アルバノ大使と大使館職員らが記念撮影を行いました。
