Embassy Celebrates Araw ng Wika 2019
In conjunction with the national celebration of Buwan ng Wika in the month of August, the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo organized an event on 23 August for the children of Embassy personnel to keep them in touch with their Filipino roots through a simple lecture on the Filipino alphabet, song, dance and games. Together with their parents, the participants had a fun-filled afternoon.
Since either born in Japan or raised in Japan from an early age, the school-age participants are exposed to Japanese culture and other foreign cultures through their daily interactions with their classmates, both locals and foreigners. The Araw ng Wika 2019 aimed to keep the participants in touch with their Filipino roots through fun activities that can easily instill in them an appreciation of their Filipino heritage.
Children of locally-hired personnel, who are Japanese, also joined the event, giving them an early introduction to Filipino culture.
Ambassador Jose C. Laurel V graced the event and presented certificates of participation to the children, encouraging them to learn more about the Philippines and the Filipino language.
