PH Embassy, Tanglaw Filipiniana Explore Opportunities for Collaboration To Promote Philippine Folk Dance in Japan

The Philippine Embassy in Japan and Tanglaw Filipiniana, an independent cultural performing arts group from the Philippines, discussed possible areas of cooperation in promoting Philippine folk dance in Japan during the latter’s courtesy call on 4 August 2026.
The Embassy welcomed fifteen (15) members of Tanglaw Filipiniana following their successful performance at the Pistang Pilipino 2026 sa Shizuoka on 1-2 August 2026. The delegation was led by Ms. Nina Ricci De Leon, Artistic Director and Folk Dance Instructor, and Mr. Rudy Alduñar, Planning Officer at the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) who is also a member of the group.

The group shared that audiences at the Pistang Pilipino held at the Sumpu Castle Park in Shizuoka City, warmly received their Philippine folk dance performances, especially the tinikling, singkil, and palayok. Following the warm reception in Shizuoka, Tanglaw Filipiniana discussed with the Embassy potential partnerships with local institutions to further promote Philippine folk dance in Japan, particularly through a dance workshop for Japanese students interested in the performing arts.

Tanglaw Filipiniana was established by distinguished alumni of the La Salle Filipiniana Dance Company of De La Salle University–Dasmariñas, who are united by a shared commitment to preserving, promoting, and celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the Philippines through dance and music. The name “Tanglaw,” the Filipino word for “light,” embodies the organization’s mission to serve as a guiding light in illuminating Filipino culture, inspiring national pride, and keeping the country’s diverse traditions alive for future generations.
