Far Eastern University Institute of Law Makes Historic Debut at the 2026 Asia Cup International Law Moot Court Competition

Officials of the Philippine Embassy in Japan welcomed the Far Eastern University (FEU) Institute of Law Moot Court Team during a courtesy call on 27 August 2026.
The team made history as the first from the FEU Institute of Law to represent the Philippines at the prestigious Asia Cup International Law Moot Court Competition for Future International Lawyers in Asia, held in Tokyo on 25-26 August 2026.
The FEU team – composed of Ms. Denise Rica Magtabog, Mr. James Andrew Bautista, Mr. Kevin Ryan Francisco, and Ms. Roveelaine Eve Castillo – delivered a solid performance, placing 7th out of 16 elite universities from across Asia that qualified for the international rounds. The team also earned individual distinctions, with Ms. Magtabog awarded 3rd Best Applicant Oralist and Mr. Bautista named 9th Best Applicant Oralist.

Guided by FEU alumni coaches Atty. Kevin Ken S. Ganchero, Atty. Patricia Kaye T. Rosario, Atty. Mary Grace B. Rementina, and Atty. Robert Jhon C. Salazar, the team competed alongside regional finalists from Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Japan, Iran, the Republic of Korea, Vietnam, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and India.
On behalf of Philippine Ambassador to Japan Mylene J. Garcia-Albano, the receiving Embassy officials extended the Embassy’s warmest congratulations to the team and expressed high hopes for FEU’s continued participation and success in future Asia Cup tournaments.
The Asia Cup International Law Moot Court Competition, formerly known as the Japan Cup, is an annual regional moot court event held in Tokyo that focuses on public international law, international humanitarian law, and human rights. Representatives from Philippine law schools have consistently distinguished themselves in the competition since its inception in 1999.
