The parents of a child, who were not married at the time of the child’s birth, may file for the notarization of their Joint Affidavit of Legitimation, provided that said parents do not have legal impediment at the time of the child’s conception.
What are the requirements when filing for notarization of a Joint Affidavit of Legitimation?

- PSA-issued Certificate of Live Birth of the child (original and two photocopies in A4-size paper)
- PSA-issued Certificate of Marriage or Report of Marriage (original and two photocopies in A4-size paper)
- PSA-issued Advisory on Marriages of both parents (original and two photocopies in A4-size paper)
- Valid passport of both parents (original and two copies each of the passport data page in A4-size paper)
- One (1) pc. self-addressed Japan Post ¥600 Letterpack
- Fees:
- ¥3,750 for regular processing (release of notarized document is after 3 working days from date of filing)
- Additional + ¥1,500 for expedite processing (release of notarized document is on the next working day from the date of filing)
What is the next step after the Joint Affidavit of Legitimation has been notarized by the Philippine Embassy?
The notarized Joint Affidavit of Legitimation along with the other documentary requirements will be submitted/filed by the parents to the Local Civil Registrar (LCR) of the place where the child was born.
The parents of the child are advised to inquire with the Philippine Statistics Authority (formerly National Statistics Office) on the requirements and procedure in the legitimation of their child prior to their visit to the Embassy.
