PH Embassy Highlights Strong PH-JP Relations During Visit of De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute

TOKYO, 19 June 2026 – The Philippine Embassy in Japan, represented by Chargé d’affaires, a.i. Christian L. De Jesus, welcomed officials from the De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute (DLSMHSI) during a courtesy visit on 16 June 2026.
As part of the visit, the DLSMHSI delegation, led by its president, Dr. Antonio Ramos, presented the Institute’s current programs, including its health professions education, healthcare services – with DLSMHSI being the largest private hospital in the province of Cavite, Philippines, and its medical research arm.

CDA De Jesus commended DLSMHSI for its commitment to providing accessible and affordable healthcare services, particularly for indigent patients, as well as its efforts to expand academic international partnerships to further enhance its services and educational programs. To date, the Institute has an active partnership with Gunma University, and has been actively participating in various training and education-related international exchanges.

CDA De Jesus also highlighted the 70th Anniversary of the Normalization of Philippines-Japan Diplomatic Relations this year, underscored by the strong and dynamic cooperation across a wide range of sectors, including education, research, and medicine. He also informed DLSMHSI of the successful State Visit of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on 26-29 May 2026 to Japan, where both countries have elevated their bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership – the Philippines’s first such partnership with any country.
During the discussions, DLSMHSI also shared updates on its hospital expansion project, research partnerships and new services, as well as future directions such as the implementation of a specialized Japanese language training program for its health sciences students.
