Philippine Embassy Hosts Meet and Greet with 2024 Tokyo Marathon Filipino Runners
The Philippine Embassy welcomed Filipino runners participating in the 2024 Tokyo Marathon to a meet and greet event on Friday, 01 March 2024 at the Siazon Hall of the Chancery. Runners from the Pinoy Runners Global (PRG) and Pinoy Runners Japan (PRJ) were scheduled to run the Tokyo Marathon on March 3rd.
Mr. Robespierre L. Bolivar, Chargé d’ Affaires, a.i. (CDA), received the 80 runners on behalf of Ambassador Mylene J. Garcia-Albano.
CDA Bolivar noted that this was the second year in a row where a formidable Filipino contingent was participating at the Tokyo Marathon. He praised the hard work and perseverance that each runner brings to bear to complete the grueling Marathon.
Those among the group who regularly run marathons took the opportunity to share tips with the rest of the participants, while Japan-based Filipino marathon runner Jemerson Vierneza shared what he learned from his years of experience running the Tokyo Marathon. He also encouraged participants to take time to enjoy the sites of Tokyo along the marathon route.
The event ended with a lunch featuring Philippine favorites, such as Kare-kare and pancit palabok, among others.
The Tokyo Marathon is among the six prestigious World Marathon Majors together with the Marathon in Berlin, Boston, Chicago, New York City, and London. Those who finish all six marathons receive the much-coveted “Six Star Medal”.
