TOKYO, 06 November 2026 – The Philippine Embassy in Japan, led by Ambassador Mylene J. Garcia-Albano, attended the opening ceremony of the 61st Japan Philatelic Exhibition (JAPEX) on 30 October 2026 at the Tokyo Metropolitan Industrial Trade Center. The Embassy served as one of the supporting entities during the event held in celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the Normalization of Diplomatic Relations between the Philippines and Japan this year.

In a celebration of cultural diplomacy, this year’s exhibition prominently featured the Japan Philatelic Society’s extensive collection of Philippine stamps. The rare and expansive display offered visitors a glimpse into more than two centuries of Philippine history, culture and heritage through philately, fostering greater cultural appreciation and understanding between the Philippines and Japan.

Ambassador Garcia-Albano extends her gratitude to the Japan Philatelic Society and the JAPEX 2026 Organizing Committee for generously hosting the Philippine Stamp Exhibition this year, in commemoration of the 70th Anniversary of Normalization of Diplomatic Relations between the Philippines and Japan.

In her keynote remarks, Ambassador Garcia-Albano expressed her appreciation to the Japan Philatelic Society and the JAPEX 2026 Organizing Committee for dedicating this year’s special feature to the Philippines.

“The exhibition holds profound significance for both the Philippines and Japan. Like the stamps themselves – each meticulously designed, rich in narrative, and enduring through time – our bilateral relations reflect a shared journey that continues to connect our peoples across generations. Just as a stamp travels across borders to deliver a message, our seven decades of cooperation have bridged oceans, transforming a historic relationship into a vibrant and forward-looking Comprehensive Strategic Partnership,” said Ambassador Garcia-Albano.

The first Philippine postage stamp, dating back to 1854, is on display at the Philippine section of the 61st JAPEX.

The special Philippine stamp exhibition offered visitors a unique visual timeline of the country’s rich history, culture, and deep-rooted ties with Japan, viewed through the lens of philatelic art.

Organized annually by the Japan Philatelic Society since 1966, JAPEX stands as Japan’s largest and most prestigious national philatelic exhibition. It brings together collectors, historians, and cultural enthusiasts from across the globe to celebrate the heritage, artistry, and historical significance of stamp collecting. This year’s event was held until 01 November 2026.
