Tokyo Metropolitan Government Donates 50,000 US Dollars for Typhoon Yolanda Victims
TOKYO-19 November 2013. Officials from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government led by Vice Governor Toshiyuki Akiyama visited the Philippine Embassy today to deliver to Philippine Ambassador to Japan Manuel M. Lopez a message of sympathy from Governor of Tokyo Naoki Inose, and to hand over the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s donation of US$ 50,000 for the support and recovery of areas affected by Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan).
In his message to Ambassador Lopez, Governor Inose expressed deepest sympathies to the victims of the typhoon on behalf of the 13 million citizens of Tokyo. The Governor also expressed the hope that the people of the Philippines will quickly overcome this disaster.
Ambassador Lopez expressed his appreciation for Tokyo’s generous donation. He noted the overwhelming support which Japan has extended to the Philippines in the aftermath of the typhoon, including the deployment of the Japan Disaster Relief (JDR) Medical Team in Leyte and Samar, which boosts the morale of the people.
Tokyo is home to more than 28,000 Filipino nationals. The Japanese capital will host the Olympics in 2020, for the second time since its first hosting in 1964.
