The Philippines and Ambassador Garcia-Albano Featured in a TV Show Teaching English Language to Elementary School Students
The Philippines was featured in NHK Educational’s TV special production of “Shōgakusei no Kiso Eigo ON TV” on 20 and 26 March 2023. Philippine Ambassador Mylene J. Garcia-Albano welcomed guests from the program to the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo. The guests included two children who won NHK Educational’s “English Quiz” competition by elementary school students from all around Japan. The two students were given a unique opportunity to experience a different culture and interact using the English language.
The highlight of the children’s visit included an introduction to the Philippines, its geography and distance from Japan and some of its popular destinations. It was followed by a showcase of Philippine traditional clothing which included the “barong” made from the leaves of the pineapple fruit. The children then got an opportunity to taste the “champorado” made from rice and melted Philippine chocolates. Finally, members of a dance troupe performed the dance “Tinikling” for the guests. The children were also given the chance to dance the “Tinikling” with the dance troupe.
The program became a great opportunity not only for the students to practice conversing in English as well as another platform to share information about the Philippines and its culture through products, clothing, food, dance and music.
