Sumitomo Corporation Donates ¥10M For Typhoon Pablo Relief Efforts

On 28 December 2012, the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo welcomed officials from Sumitomo Corporation. Sumitomo Corporation and Sumitomo Corporation Asia Pte. Ltd. will donate ¥10 million in cash (approximately P5 million) as humanitarian assistance for those affected by Typhoon Pablo (international name: Bopha) in the Philippines, especially in Mindanao.
The donation, coursed through the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo, will be turned over to proper authorities in the Philippines.
Ambassador Manuel M. Lopez met with Mr. Masayuki Doi, Board Member, Senior Managing Executive Officer and General Manager of Corporate Planning and Coordination of Sumitomo Corporation, Mr. Toshio Motegi, Assistant General Manager for Global Strategy and Coordination, and Mr. Ted Ono, Manager of Social Contribution Team and CSR Global Promotion.
On behalf of Sumitomo Corporation President and CEO Kuniharu Nakamura, Mr. Doi expressed condolences and solidarity with the Philippines, especially for the loss of lives and damages to property wrought by Typhoon Pablo. He expressed hope for the quick recovery and rehabilitation in the affected areas.
Ambassador Lopez expressed appreciation to the officials of Sumitomo Corporation for their generous contribution and concern for those affected by Typhoon Pablo despite the massive damage to Sumifru’s banana plantations in Mindanao. He also thanked the officials as he recalled that Sumitomo Corporation and their affiliated companies also extended similar voluntary cash donations to those affected by Typhoons Ondoy and Sendong in the Philippines in 2009 and 2012 respectively. He also recognized Japan’s immediate and timely response from its public and private sectors after big natural calamities hit the Philippines.
