STATEMENT
The Philippine Embassy is verifying the facts on the ground over the apparent removal of the painted marking recognizing Japan’s assistance in the original construction of the Baras Elementary School in Palo, Leyte.
The school building, which was built with funding from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), had been damaged by Typhoon Haiyan and was recently reconstructed with the help of international partners.
The Philippines understands the public sentiments on this matter.
The Philippines is working towards an appropriate course of corrective action for this unfortunate situation.
