President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos embarked on a State Visit to Japan on 26-29 May 2026 to further strengthen ties between the Philippines and Japan in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the normalization of their diplomatic relations.
President Marcos Jr. and First Lady Araneta-Marcos were warmly received by Their Majesties at the Imperial Palace for a Welcome Ceremony, State Call, and State Banquet.
President Marcos Jr. also delivered an address to the National Diet of Japan that reflected on the 70 years of friendship between the Philippines and Japan, and engaged with Japanese parliamentarians.
He held a historic summit with Japan Prime Minister Sanae TAKAICHI during the State Visit. Both leaders declared the elevation of Philippines-Japan diplomatic ties into a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership – the highest tier of diplomatic cooperation in Philippine foreign policy.
President Marcos. Jr. also met with Japanese business leaders of strategic sectors to deepen economic cooperation between the countries and secure investment pledges.
As part of his official engagements, President Marcos Jr. met with members of the Filipino community in Japan to reaffirm the government’s commitment in promoting and protecting their welfare.
