Ranking Japanese Government Officials, Foreign Diplomats and Filipinos Offer Condolences Over the Passing of DILG Secretary Jesse M. Robredo
Between 28 and 29 August, the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo received a stream of ranking Japanese Government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, as well as members of the Filipino community in Japan who signed the Embassy’s book of condolence and joined the Filipino nation in mourning the late Secretary of Interior and Local Government Jesse M. Robredo.

Former Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda led representatives of the Japanese Government in extending messages of sympathy. Members of the Diet affiliated with the Japan-Philippines Parliamentarians Friendship League (JPPFL), including Councillor Hajime Ishii, Councillor Masayoshi Nataniya, Rep. Hirotaka Matsuoka, Rep. Denny Tamaki, and Rep. Koichi Mukoyama, also visited the Embassy to offer their condolences.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was represented by Director General Kunio Umeda of the Southeast and Southwest Asian Affairs Department and his officers.

Members of the Filipino community offered messages of a more personal tone, extolling Secretary Robredo for his exemplary and honest brand of public service, and offering prayers and messages of comfort addressed to the family of the departed Secretary.
The Embassy of the Philippines in Tokyo opened the condolence book and flew the Philippine flag at half-mast, in solidarity with the grieving Filipino nation and in observance of the National Days of Mourning declared by President Benigno S. Aquino III in honor of Secretary Robredo.
