Phl Embassy in Tokyo Celebrates “Balik Nampeidai”
04 June 2013 – The Department of Foreign Affairs announced the recovery of possession of the Philippine property in the Nampeidai district of Shibuya, Tokyo on 01 June 2013. On that day, the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo marked the return of the Nampeidai Property after several years of litigation with a simple ceremony entitled “Balik Nampeidai.”
With the Philippine flag once again hoisted and flying high, Philippine Ambassador to Japan Manuel M. Lopez expressed deep appreciation to all those who have contributed to the successful recovery of the property. The Ambassador made special mention of Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert F. del Rosario, whose unwavering support and leadership inspired the Embassy to persevere in winning back the Nampeidai Property.
Officials from the Philippine Inter-Agency Bids and Awards Committee for the development of properties in Japan (BAC-Japan) who were instrumental in regaining the Nampeidai Property graced the event, including Finance Undersecretary Carlo A. Carag (BAC-Japan Chairman), Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Rafael E. Seguis, and representatives from the Office of the Solicitor-General.
Filipino community leaders in Tokyo joined the celebrations, even as the news of the return of the Nampeidai Property is welcomed by Filipino nationals throughout Japan.
The Nampeidai Property is one of the four properties in Japan acquired by the Philippine government under the 09 May 1956 Reparations Agreement with Japan.
