Philippines Participates in 3rd Global Ministerial Summit on Patient Safety
Health Secretary Francisco T. Duque led the delegation who joined health officials from forty other countries and international organizations in the 3rd Global Ministerial Summit on Patient Safety in Tokyo, Japan from 13- 14 April 2018. He presented the Philippines’ program and policies on Patient Safety as well as the Fourmula Plus One Program towards universal health care.
The Philippine delegation included Undersecretary Herminigildo V. Valle, Director Criselda Abesamis and Economic Officer Cassandra B. Sawadjaan of the Philippine Embassy.
At the end of the summit, the ministers adopted the Tokyo Declaration on Patient Safety put forward by Japan, Germany and the United Kingdom. The declaration aims to accelerate the progress toward improving patient safety globally by aligning incentives, increasing transparency and implementing practices that acknowledge the importance of continuous improvement when it comes to safety and quality in healthcare. The declaration also supports the celebration of the World Patient Safety Day every 17th day of September
