TOKYO, 25 April 2025 – As part of its continuing commitment to promote Philippine culture, heritage, and products, the Philippine Embassy featured Filipino food, fine jewelry and fashion pieces specially curated for the Asia-Pacific Festival and Charity Bazaar organized by the Asia-Pacific Ladies Friendship Society (ALFS) on 23 April 2025 at the Meiji Kinenkan in Tokyo, Japan.
The Philippine booth drew a steady stream of visitors eager to sample and purchase the country’s signature dried mangoes, coconut-based products, and banana chips, as well as Philippine-made shawls and other artisanal items. Many eventgoers even returned for additional purchases, testifying to the strong appeal of Filipino goods.
“The Philippine booth aims to showcase the best of the Philippines through its curated selection of products that celebrate Filipino creativity, native resources, and indigenous materials,” said Philippine Ambassador to Japan Mylene J. Garcia-Albano. She also emphasized that beyond cultural promotion, the Embassy’s participation also supports meaningful causes. The Embassy is a regular participant in this annual cultural and charitable event.
The festival and charity bazaar was graced by the presence of Her Imperial Highness Princess Hanako Hitachi, who visited the booths of the 23 participating countries. Ambassador Garcia-Albano had the honor of welcoming the Princess to the Philippine booth.
Established in 1968, the Asia-Pacific Ladies Friendship Society seeks to foster friendship and mutual understanding among its members. As of 2025, the Society comprises 26 member countries, represented by women ambassadors and the spouses of ambassadors to Japan.
The Asia-Pacific Festival and Charity Bazaar is ALFS’ main charity event. Proceeds from the bazaar will help support various welfare initiatives and disaster recovery efforts both in Japan and abroad.
