Philippine Ambassador Welcomes Chikusei City Mayor

Philippine Ambassador to Japan Mylene J. Garcia-Albano warmly welcomed Mayor Miko SHIDARA of Chikusei City, Ibaraki Prefecture, and her delegation during their visit to the Philippine Embassy on 04 February 2026.
During the meeting, Ambassador Garcia-Albano acknowledged Chikusei City’s strengths in agriculture and local governance, and expressed the Embassy’s keen interest in learning from the city’s experience in improving agricultural productivity, rural development, and local administration.
Mayor Shidara, for her part, expressed her appreciation to the Ambassador for the Embassy’s continued conduct of consular services in Ibaraki Prefecture area. She also discussed the proposed sister city agreement between Chikusei City and Cebu City.

Furthermore, the two sides exchanged views on potential areas of cooperation, particularly in agriculture, agri-technology, city planning, local governance, and people-to-people exchanges, reflecting shared interests in sustainable and inclusive development.
Ambassador Garcia-Albano concluded the meeting by encouraging Chikusei City to explore and visit tourist destinations in the Philippines to deepen mutual understanding and cultural exchange. In turn, Mayor Shidara extended an invitation to the Ambassador to visit the Chikusei City to experience its lively festivals and engage in further exchanges of best practices.
