Philippine Ambassador pushes for more educational opportunities for Filipinos abroad through UP VINTA Program

10 April 2025 – Philippine Ambassador to Japan Mylene J. Garcia-Albano highlighted the need to provide more educational opportunities for Filipinos not only in Japan, but also in other countries, including Micronesia, the Marshall Islands and Palau where there are Filipino communities, during the call by Dr. Joane V. Serrano, Chancellor of the University of the Philippines (UP) Open University.

Ambassador Garcia-Albano is the Philippines’ non-resident ambassador to said Pacific island countries.

Chancellor Serrano discussed the implementation in Japan of the UP Ventures for International and Transformative Academia (VINTA) Program which provides upskilling and reskilling opportunities to Filipinos abroad through online courses, including on financial literacy and gender sensitivity, and full degree programs.

The UP VINTA Team is scheduled to return to Tokyo in May 2025 to conduct the actual registration of Filipinos interested to study through its online programs.

Chancellor Serrano was accompanied by Associate Professor Sherry B. Marasigan and Assistant Professor Margaret Jarmin-Suarez during the courtesy call.
