Philippine Ambassador Participates in the Culture of East Asia Summit in Tokyo
26 August 2017 – His Excellency, Ambassador Jose C. Laurel V participated in the recently concluded Culture of East Asia Summit at the International Conference Center, Kyoto. The Summit aimed to foster stronger cultural ties between Japan, Republic of Korea and China and with Southeast Asian countries including the Philippines.
Aside from representatives from Brunei Darussalam, Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam, participants included the Mayors of past Culture Cities, namely: Yokohama, Niigata, Nara and Kyoto (Japan), Quanzhou, Qingdao, Ningbo and Changsha (China), Gwangju, Cheongju, Jeju and Daegu (Republic of Korea); as well as Mayors of upcoming Culture cities, particularly: Kanazawa (Japan), Harbin (China), Busan (Republic of Korea).
Ambassador Laurel, during his presentation, shared that Cebu was declared an ASEAN City of Culture in the years 2010-2011 for the countless cultural attractions the city has to offer – delectable food, colorful fiestas, pristine white beaches, centuries-old churches and structures, and well-loved Cebuano music and literature, to name a few. He also enumerated the host of activities organized by the Cebu City Government to promote the city’s attractions. END
