Philippine Ambassador Highlights Philippines’ Leadership in Women Empowerment at Japan Women’s Network Kickoff Meeting

Philippine Ambassador to Japan Mylene J. Garcia-Albano gave a brief background on the Philippines’ approach to women empowerment and gender equality, at the virtual opening session of the J-Win Mentoring Program on 30 January 2025.

TOKYO, 31 January 2025 – Ambassador Mylene J. Garcia-Albano highlighted the Philippines’ successes on women empowerment and gender equality in her remarks at the Opening Session of the Mentoring Program of the Japan Women’s Innovative Network (J-Win) Executive Network (JEN Mentoring Program) held virtually on 30 January 2025.

“The Philippines has always been a trailblazer on women empowerment and gender and development. Based on the latest Global Gender Gap Insight Report issued by the World Economic Forum in 2024, the Philippines ranked 25th among 146 countries on gender parity– the highest-ranked among economies in Asia,” emphasized Ambassador Garcia-Albano.

Ambassador Garcia-Albano is one of only four featured women ambassadors in Japan who will serve as mentors for the 2025 edition of the JEN Mentoring Program, which will run from January to June this year. The ambassadors of Finland, Serbia and Sweden were also invited as ambassador-mentors.

During her mentorship, Ambassador Garcia-Albano aims to share with her three mentees her insights and experiences on navigating challenging work environments, particularly for women professionals, and discuss how to implement impactful programs, projects, and initiatives both internationally and within local organizations.

Founded in 2007, J-Win is a non-profit organization committed to promoting diversity and inclusion as a management strategy, and supporting women in building networks and accessing greater opportunities for professional development. With over 5,000 corporate members from more than 90 companies—including AEON, Deloitte, Honda, and Japan Airlines—J-Win established the JEN Mentoring Program in 2000. Since its inception, the program has featured 23 women ambassadors as mentors.

Ambassador Garcia-Albano’s participation in the JEN Mentoring Program is part of this year’s roster of activities under the auspices of the Philippine Embassy’s gender and development program.
