TOKYO, 05 February 2026 – In time for the 70th anniversary of the normalization of Philippines-Japan diplomatic relations in 2026, the Philippine adobo is currently featured for a limited time on the international menu of Kura Sushi, a one Japan’s most popular conveyor belt sushi restaurant chains in Japan.
“Kura Sushi has captured the flavor of Philippine adobo, a staple Filipino dish, in its chicken version. Cooked using sushi vinegar, it combines Filipino taste with Japanese ingredients – an excellent fusion of our countries’ culinary heritage and a fitting symbol of this year’s milestone anniversary,” said Philippine Ambassador to Japan Mylene J. Garcia-Albano, following her visit to Kura Sushi’s Hatsudai branch in Shibuya, Tokyo.

Adobo, a classic Filipino dish typically prepared by simmering meat or vegetables simmered in vinegar, soy sauce, and garlic, with the optional garnishing of bay leaves and eggs, is best enjoyed with steamed rice and comes in variations across all regions in the Philippines.
As part of Kura Sushi’s special promotion, its adobo is paired with the restaurant’s Japan-style omelette, adding a distinctive local touch.
Kura Sushi has more than 500 branches in Japan and overseas. Its restaurant at the World Expo Osaka 2025 also served international dishes, including adobo.
The Philippine adobo promotion runs until 05 February 2026, with online orders currently available and will end once sold out. Customers may find the nearest Kura Sushi branch through this website: https://www.kurasushi.co.jp/en/.
