TOKYO, 17 October 2025 – Philippine Ambassador to Japan Mylene J. Garcia-Albano and Aichi Prefecture Governor OHMURA Hideaki exchanged views on strengthening cooperation between the Philippines and Aichi Prefecture during the latter’s courtesy visit to the Philippine Embassy on 09 October 2025.

Governor Ohmura briefed the Ambassador on his productive visit to the Philippines in August 2025 to meet with Secretary of Foreign Affairs Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro and other Philippine government officials. He also visited the province of Laguna, where Japanese manufacturing companies have established operations.

“There are 74 Japanese companies based in Aichi that have expanded to the Philippines, which signifies our strong economic partnership,” Governor Ohmura said during the call.

Governor Ohmura also extended his condolences to the people of the Philippines following the devastation caused by the 6.9 magnitude earthquake in Cebu province on 30 September 2025.

Ambassador Garcia-Albano expressed her appreciation for Governor Ohmura’s efforts to promote collaboration between the Philippines and Aichi Prefecture. She also conveyed her interest in exploring opportunities to connect Philippine and Japanese businesses and undertake joint initiatives for the 70th anniversary of the normalization of Philippines-Japan relations in 2026.

Governor Ohmura underscored the importance of the Philippines as a key partner of Aichi Prefecture, which currently hosts nearly 47,000 Filipino residents. He also expressed his gratitude for the country’s assistance through its Consulate General in Nagoya that opened in 2019, noting that its presence has contributed to the prefectural government’s goal of fostering multicultural coexistence between Filipinos and Japanese.

“The Aichi Prefectural Government can count on the unwavering support of the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo and the Consulate General in Nagoya for assistance and collaboration in empowering the Filipino community in Aichi,” Ambassador Garcia-Albano reassured Governor Ohmura.

Governor Ohmura also shared updates on Aichi Prefecture’s leading industries, infrastructure, and cultural facilities that have been enhanced to attract more international visitors and host major events. Among these are the preparations for its hosting of the 20th Asian Games and 5th Asian Para Games in 2026 and the 60th Asian Development Bank (ADB) Annual Meeting in 2027.
