During the official opening of the shipment on 25 November 2024, Philippine Ambassador to Japan Mylene J. Garcia-Albano emphasized the impact of this milestone on strengthening Philippines-Japan trade relations and creating new opportunities for Filipino farmers and exporters.

The Philippines is now the first Asian country to supply Hass avocados to Japan, a breakthrough achieved after more than a decade of efforts to secure market access and meet rigorous quality standards. This accomplishment signals a promising future for the Philippine avocado industry, with Japan cementing itself as a key market for Philippine agricultural exports.

Japan is currently the largest export market for fresh bananas from the Philippines, with other tropical fruits such as pineapples, mangoes, and papayas also making their way into the Japanese market.
