TOKYO, 27 March 2026 — The Filipino community in Japan gathered in the spirit of friendship, culture, and solidarity for a Hanami celebration held on 22 March 2026 at Ukima Park in Tokyo. The event was organized through the Migrant Workers Office – Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Tokyo (MWO-OWWA Tokyo), bringing together overseas Filipinos and their families to celebrate the beauty of Japan’s cherry blossom season.
Set against the backdrop of blooming sakura, the gathering served as a meaningful opportunity for community members to strengthen bonds while appreciating one of Japan’s most cherished cultural traditions.
The celebration also highlighted the Philippines’ observance of National Women’s Month, recognizing the invaluable contributions of Filipino women, particularly migrant workers, in nurturing resilient families and communities both in Japan and in the Philippines.
Following the event, Philippine Ambassador to Japan Mylene J. Garcia-Albano expressed appreciation to the Filipino community and partner agencies for their active participation and continued engagement.
She remarked, “As we gathered under the blossoms, we were reminded of renewal, resilience, and the enduring strength of our community. I commend our Filipino community in Japan for their unity, generosity, and continued contributions not only to Philippine development through their hard work and remittances, but also to fostering goodwill and people-to-people ties with Japan.”
“This celebration is both a tribute to the beauty of Japanese culture and a recognition of the vital role of Filipino women, whose courage and compassion continue to uplift our nation, wherever they may be.”
Ambassador Garcia-Albano also commended MWO-OWWA Tokyo, led by its Head, Mr. Ramon Lamberto Pastrana, for its continued efforts in promoting the rights and welfare of Filipino workers in Japan, and reaffirmed the Embassy’s commitment to supporting initiatives that foster community engagement and cultural appreciation.
