Tokyo PE Celebrates National Heritage Month 2018
10 May 2018 – In celebration of National Heritage Month, the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo opened an Exhibit on Philippine Traditional Musical Instruments with photos culled from the wide collection of National Artists for Music Lucrecia Kasilag and Dr. Ramon P. Santos. The Exhibit aimed at educating Filipinos about the traditional musical instruments from different regions of the Philippines, and encouraging deeper appreciation of the Philippines’ rich cultural heritage.
The opening of the Exhibit was complemented by a Lecture of National Artist for Music Dr. Santos.
Per Proclamation No. 439 s. 2003, National Heritage Month is celebrated during May of every year in order “to create among the people a consciousness, respect, and love for the legacies of Filipino cultural history.”
This year’s theme is “Pambansang Pagkakaisa Para sa Pamana” (National Unity for Heritage) to highlight “the unifying force of a common heritage as a nation and underscore the need for national unity to ensure that such heritage is preserved for the enjoyment of future generations.”
