RP Embassy in Tokyo Receives ¥5M Donation from AEON CO. LTD. for Typhoon Ondoy Disaster Relief Efforts
The Philippine Embassy in Tokyo received a ¥5 million (approximately P2.5 million) voluntary cash donation on 02 October 2009 from officials of AEON Co. Ltd as humanitarian assistance for those affected by Typhoon Ondoy (international name: Ketsana) in the Philippines.
Along with some Embassy officials, Chargé d’Affaires Gina Jamoralin met with AEON Co. Ltd. Chairman and AEON 1% Club Chairman Akihiko Harada, Chairman of Ministop Co. Ltd. Hiroshi Yokoo, President of Ministop Co. Ltd Nobuyuki Abe, and other officials. Chairman Harada shared his condolences and solidarity with the Philippines in the wake of the damages brought by Typhoon Ondoy.
Chargé d’Affaires Jamoralin thanked Chairman Harada and the AEON Co. Ltd. Group for their generous contribution and expressed her appreciation for AEON Co. Ltd. as one of the first private Japanese corporations to have contributed to Typhoon Ondoy disaster relief efforts. Minister Jamoralin also recognized Japan’s immediate and timely response from its public and private sectors after the typhoon hit the Philippines.
AEON Co. Ltd is one of the largest Japanese corporations involved in general merchandise operations, retail operations, retail property development, finance, convenience store operations, travel, and environmental preservation among other sectors. MINISTOP Co. Ltd, a member company of AEON Co. Ltd, has more than 240 convenience stores in the Philippines which it operates with its Philippine partner, JG Summit Holdings Inc.
