Philippine High School for the Arts (PHSA) Student Receives Merit Award at International Arts Festival in Tokyo

TOKYO, 10 August 2025 – Ms. Jasig Carhrihl C. Aldea from the Philippine High School for the Arts (PHSA) was awarded a Certificate of Merit at the 26th International High School Arts Festival held on 6 August 2025 in Tokyo, Japan, for her artwork titled “Intersection.”

In her acceptance speech, Ms. Aldea expressed her hope that her work would reflect the significance of finding joy even amid life’s challenges. She was accompanied at the ceremony by Mr. Leo Gerardo Leonardo, Senior High Visual Arts program Master Teacher II, also of PHSA.

Ms. Aldea also extended her gratitude to the Philippine Embassy in Japan, particularly Ambassador Mylene J. Garcia-Albano, for the support and assistance provided in facilitating the Philippines’ participation in the Festival. “Intersection” is currently on exhibit at the National Art Center, Tokyo, alongside artworks from fellow PHSA students Ms. Isabella R. Pili, Ms. Gabrielle Therese R. Espino, and Mr. Ricciana Malaya C. Galos. The exhibition will run until 17 August 2025.

“Congratulations to Ms. Aldea for receiving the Certificate of Merit in the International High School Arts Festival. Her exceptional artistry, along with that of the other young Filipino artists featured in the Festival, reflects the innate creativity and talent of the Filipino youth in the visual arts. I commend the Philippine High School for the Arts for nurturing these gifts and for providing a platform to showcase them on the global stage,” said Ambassador Garcia-Albano following the ceremony.

Launched in 2000 as the Japanese High School Arts Festival, the event now draws over 10,000 submissions annually. Organized by the International High School Arts Festival Committee chaired by Mr. Haruhisa Handa, the Festival features 500 selected works in art and calligraphy from students around the world.
