The Philippine Embassy in Japan participated in the ASEAN Country Presentation held on 19 February 2026 at Onarimon Elementary School in Minato City, Tokyo. The event was organized by the ASEAN-Japan Centre as part of its continuing efforts to promote deeper understanding and friendship between Japan and ASEAN Member States at the grassroots level.

The Embassy’s Cultural Officer, Consul Fatima G. Quintin, and Economic Officer, Consul Alvin C. Malasig, engaged Grade 5 and 6 students in an interactive session introducing the Philippines’ geography, culture, traditions, and government. The presentation highlighted the country’s vibrant heritage, natural attractions, and various facets of Philippines–Japan relations.

In line with the Embassy’s economic diplomacy efforts, students were also introduced to the Philippines’ role as a reliable agricultural partner of Japan. The officers shared that bananas are the Philippines’ number one agricultural export to Japan, underscoring the close trade relations between the countries and the importance of everyday products in strengthening bilateral ties.

The Embassy likewise highlighted that 2026 marks the 70th Anniversary of the Normalization of Diplomatic Relations between the Philippines and Japan, a milestone that reflects seven (7) decades of friendship and cooperation. The presentation emphasized how the partnership has grown across various fields, including trade and investment, development cooperation, and cultural exchange.

The school visit forms part of a broader series of outreach activities organized by the Embassy to promote greater awareness and appreciation of the Philippines among young Japanese students. By engaging schools across Japan, the Embassy seeks to nurture early understanding of the Philippines’ culture, economy, and its longstanding friendship with Japan.
