TOKYO, 3 October 2025 – As part of Sentro Rizal Tokyo’s cultural and heritage promotions campaign, the Philippine Embassy conducted a series of cultural presentations for Akabane Elementary School and Azabu Elementary School, both of which are located in Minato City.

The activities introduced school children, including students from special needs classes and second grade pupils, to the Philippines through interactive lessons and engaging displays. Highlights included facts about the country, traditional Filipino values, cuisine, and games.

The schoolchildren also enjoyed a curated display of cultural items, basic Filipino language lessons, and games that fostered the students’ creativity and sense of “bayanihan” or community spirit.

The school cultural presentations included a video on the Philippines, facts on the Philippines, Filipino language lessons, and group games such as the “Build Your Highest Mt. Mayon” encouraged the “bayanihan” spirit among the schoolchildren.

“One of Sentro Rizal Tokyo’s advocacies is to strengthen people-to-people ties and further cultivate cultural understanding between the Philippines and Japan through activities that showcase our language, values, and heritage to the younger generation of Japanese. These school presentations are also an excellent prelude to the celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the Normalization of Philippines-Japan Diplomatic Relations in 2026,” Philippine Ambassador Mylene J. Garcia-Albano said following the activities.

To further promote the Philippines’ agricultural products available in Japan, Philippine bananas – Japan’s no. 1 with 75% of total supply coming from the Philippines – were featured in a creative banana character activity. Students also received Philippine bananas, along with Filipino-themed reusable bags and stickers, as tokens of appreciation.

Philippine bananas – the no. 1 banana in Japan – were also featured during the school cultural presentations with a banana character activity, and were given out as tokens to the students.

Following the presentations, the students as well as schoolteachers of Akabane Elementary School and Azabu Elementary School practiced Filipino words as they extended their “salamat” (thank you) and “paalam” (goodbye).
