TOKYO, 03 March 2025 – Filipino participants in the Tokyo Marathon 2025 gathered at the Philippine Embassy on 28 February 2025 for a special event ahead of the highly anticipated race.
Philippine Ambassador to Japan Mylene J. Garcia-Albano warmly welcomed the Filipino runners, who traveled from the Philippines, Japan, North America, Europe, and the Middle East to take part in the marathon.
“As one of the world’s most prestigious races, the Tokyo Marathon is made even more special by the strong presence of Filipinos—whether based in Japan or traveling from across the globe,” Ambassador Garcia-Albano said.
The Embassy hosted a brunch reception featuring well-loved Filipino savory dishes and desserts. Fresh bananas, a staple for endurance athletes, were also provided to support the runners in their final days of preparation.
In her message of encouragement, Ambassador Garcia-Albano commended the athletes for their dedication and perseverance, emphasizing the sense of unity that their participation brings to the Filipino community.
“I want to thank you for always making the Philippine Embassy a home away from home. Your visit today strengthens the bond that unites us as Filipinos, no matter where we are in the world or what path we are pursuing,” she concluded.
This marks the third time the Philippine Embassy has hosted a gathering of Filipino runners. The event was co-organized by Pinoy Runners Global, whose goal is “to bring together all Filipino Runners into one unified global community and to encourage healthy lifestyles through the practice of running.”
The Tokyo Marathon is one of the six prestigious World Marathon Majors, alongside the Berlin, Boston, Chicago, New York City, and London Marathons. This year’s event, held on 2 March 2025, gathered almost 38,000 runners from around the world, including elite athletes and recreational participants. END
