TOKYO, 27 February 2025 – Philippine Ambassador to Japan Mylene J. Garcia-Albano highlighted the Philippines’ commitment to advancing women’s empowerment and gender equality during the panel discussion, “Female Ambassadors Driving Women’s Empowerment in Global Politics and Business,” held on 27 February 2025 at the Tokyo American Club.
Ambassador Garcia-Albano joined Mexican Ambassador to Japan Melba Pría and UK Ambassador to Japan Julia Longbottom in an insightful discussion on women’s leadership in diplomacy, governance, and development. As the first female ambassadors of their respective countries to Japan, they shared their experiences and lessons on overcoming barriers in traditionally male-dominated fields.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this important conversation alongside fellow female ambassadors who have broken barriers in diplomacy. The Philippines has had many role models in leadership, from politics to business, who have paved the way for greater gender inclusivity. Furthermore, we have been able to legislate policies that promote women’s rights and protect them against discrimination. We continue to work towards the full realization of these goals and ensure that gender equality remains a national priority,” the Ambassador remarked after the event.
The panel discussion was the first of its kind for women Ambassadors and co-organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan and the British Chamber of Commerce in Japan in celebration of International Women’s Day on 8 March. The event also received strong support from the Philippine Chamber of Commerce in Japan.
