PH Student Awarded at 12th International High School Arts Festival in Tokyo

Sixteen-year old Jamille Bianca Tan Aguilar of MGC New Life Christian Academy at Fort Bonifacio Global City has been awarded a medal and certificate for winning a “Special Prize to International Artist” at the Awarding Ceremony of the 12th International High School Arts Festival (IFAT) organized by the International Foundation for Arts and Culture of Japan (IFAC). The Festival’s awarding ceremony was held on 27 July 2010 at the Ueno Seiyoken in Tokyo.
During the Awarding Ceremony, IFAC chairman Dr. Haruhisa Handa praised the potentials and high level of artistic skills shown by Jamille and the other students. Each winner received a medal and certificate from the representative of his embassy in Tokyo. Ambassador Manuel M. Lopez presented Jamille her medal and certificate and expressed the hope that IFAT would continue to be a success because “it provides an excellent opportunity for young people from around the world to showcase their artistic talents and learn from each other.” In accepting her award, Jamille thanked her family as well as IFAC and others who made it possible for her to come to Japan to receive her prize.
Participating in the Festival for the second time, the Philippines submitted 6 paintings created by high school students from all over the country Jamille Bianca Tan Aguilar (Manila), Patrick Prime AB G. Villaos (Palawan), Claire A. Magtuba (Zamboanga del Norte), Junel L. Cesar (Zamboanga del Norte), Loverson R. Saracho ((Zamboanga del Norte), and Alia Julia S. Pablo (Laguna). Jamille’s painting titled “Me and My Country—Celebration of Nationalism and Patriotism” was selected by a panel of judges from the Philippine Embassy, as the best Philippine artwork.
The Filipino students’ paintings were displayed along with artworks created by high school students from the 15 countries at the Ueno Royal Museum. This year’s Festival runs from 27-29 July 2011.
The International High School Arts Festival is an annual event that showcases the talents of young people from different countries in visual arts. It is intended to promote goodwill and understanding among participating countries through the medium of art. This year’s festival was participated in by high school students from Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, China, Egypt, Indonesia, Ireland, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, United Kingdom, and Vietnam.
