TOKYO, 08 April 2026 – Philippine Ambassador to Japan Mylene J. Garcia-Albano underscored the power of women as agents of meaningful change in the Philippines and around the world during the pre-book launch and networking event of “Alpha Whisperers” on 23 March 2026 at The Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Japan.
Alpha Whisperers is an international network of strategists, advisers, and counselors to world leaders and decision-makers that aims to facilitate leadership conversations and action on several fields, including healthcare, investment, artificial intelligence, women in leadership, philanthropy, and environmental sustainability.
“We look forward to witnessing the growth of this unique network of ‘alpha whisperers’ in shaping meaningful dialogue between Japan and its partners, including the Philippines, towards a sustainable and empowering future,” Ambassador Garcia-Albano said in her remarks during the event.
Alpha Whisperers was established by Filipino-American social innovator Janet C. Salazar, who developed its foundations through a leadership book project that underscores the role of such alpha whisperers in driving positive change.
“We are especially proud of the founder of Alpha Whisperers – and a fellow Filipina – Ms. Janet Salazar, on this accomplishment. Your dedication and grit in building this leadership platform attest to the potential of the Filipino diaspora not only in contributing to their local communities, but also advocating meaningful change in their environment as leaders,” Ambassador Garcia-Albano remarked in commending Ms. Salazar’s achievement.
The event facilitated an insightful panel discussion with Ms. Salazar, Ambassador Akiko YAMANAKA, former Deputy Foreign Minister and Co-Founder of the World Assembly of Women (WAW), and Ms. Patricia Bader-Johnston, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Big Heart Technologies. The discussions focused on Ms. Salazar’s book project and the power of women to exert influence in various ways.
The Ambassador’s participation in the event coincided with the Philippines’ celebration of National Women’s Month, which reaffirms women’s vital contributions to the country’s development and peacebuilding.
“Women are an integral part of the Filipino diaspora in Japan, constituting 65 percent of approximately 350,000 Filipino residents. Beyond nurturing their families either in the Philippines or Japan, many of them work as teachers, who are instrumental in molding the minds of the leaders of the next generation,” Ambassador Garcia-Albano shared, highlighting the invaluable role of Filipino women in strengthening Philippines-Japan relations as the two countries celebrate the 70th anniversary of the normalization of their diplomatic ties this year.
